What lawyer ratings and directory badges mean
Last updated . Sources checked
A lawyer badge records a claim made under a particular publisher's process. It should be read with that process and its date, rather than as a general certification of a law firm. Licensing information comes from the relevant professional regulator; the State Bar of Georgia provides its own directory for membership and public disciplinary history.[1][2]
Read the selection method
Super Lawyers describes a process that uses peer nominations and a research phase followed by peer evaluation. Selections are made annually by state. Its methodology says five percent of lawyers in a state are selected for its main list. Rising Stars has a separate eligibility limit: age forty or younger, or ten years or less in practice. The publisher says that list includes up to 2.5 percent of lawyers in a state. These are the publisher's descriptions of its lists, not this directory's ratings.[1]
Do not turn recognition into a guarantee
Ask which attorney a recognition concerns and which year it covers before applying it to a whole firm. Georgia Rule 7.1 prohibits false or misleading communications about legal services. Its commentary cautions that even truthful achievements can mislead when presented to create unjustified expectations about another client's result. This directory therefore omits badge-based ordering and makes no quality comparison from a logo or selection percentage.[3]
