A Georgia lawyer's membership record is different from a firm's directory profile. The State Bar of Georgia says its member directory provides contact and membership information together with public disciplinary history for lawyers licensed in Georgia. A firm advertisement or a listing in this publication is not a substitute for that record.[1]

Start with the lawyer's full name rather than the firm's brand. Compare the returned information with the attorney you intend to retain, and do not assume that similar names identify the same person. The Bar says some lawyers display only limited information for privacy reasons. If an entry is unclear, use the Bar's status assistance rather than infer a favorable or unfavorable status from an incomplete match.[1]

When further checking is needed

The Bar's membership FAQ states that its Membership Department maintains each member's status and that the online directory is updated daily. It gives 404-527-8777 for remaining status questions. Recheck the record when making a hiring decision rather than rely on a directory page's older source date. This publication has not performed a current member-by-member status certification for the lawyers named in its firm profiles.[2]
